Inspiration1.) stimulation or arousal of the mind, feelings, etc., to special or unusual activity or creativity.
Recently, with my new project being mostly mixed and finishing up, I’ve been asked by various persons involved, “What is that song about?” Or, “What inspired that lyric?”
At first I was a bit confused. Perhaps my writings were not quite up to par? Or too vague? When I queried back, “What do you think the song is about?” I received replies of such varied degree and nature that I felt a bit uneasy, to say the least.
Some people had ideas of a great inner truth I had found, or strange encounters. Some were obscene and sexual in nature. Others were just downright comical. In short, I needed answers. So these inquiries became yet another form of inspiration. Get answers…FAST!
After pondering the question a bit, the answer was in fact quite simple. IMAGINATION. Imagination, based upon an actual occurrence or fact.
See, for me a trip to the great outdoors is a fine example. Taking in the panorama of a majestic grand mountain canopied with lush green pine becomes: “…and there I was surrounded by wild Mohawks wishing they could lift my scalp,” or “just over that crest somewhere lies the coveted Golden Sausage!”
Now mind you, not all TPG songs are strictly imagination. Some are based on actual fact—just the names have been changed to protect the innocent. For instance, recently a guy was hitting on my date while I was busy performing at a club. I perceived him as tall, well built, handsome, young. Perhaps everything I am not. (Well, almost.)
This “incident” became the title for an upcoming song “Killer Don’t Mind.” (He doesn’t mind stealing your date while you are busy behind a set of drums for the next 45 minutes!) Inspiration met Imagination.
I expect you’ll be hearing that track on a release soon—and other song titles will be up for speculation upon the release of this first album. Until then…
